Megan began playing the violin at the age of 7, in her home town in Maldon, Essex. A former leader of the Essex Youth Orchestra and the Essex Youth Chamber Orchestra, Megan was educated at the Plume School in Maldon and during this time became a pupil of local violinist Emma Penfold.
She gained much performance experience during these years as a member of a variety of school and Essex Youth ensembles. On her gap year, she played with several orchestras including the Kensington Symphony Orchestra, where she took part in a performance of ‘Tosca’ at St John’s Smith Square, London. She started her BMus (Hons) Performance degree at Birmingham Conservatoire in September 2012, studying under Susanne Stanzeleit. Also in that year she joined the CBSO Youth Orchestra, and played under conductors such as Edward Gardner, Jac van Steen, Andrew Litton and Michael Seal.
Now in her final year at Birmingham Conservatoire, Megan continues her busy 2016 after recent concerts with the Birmingham Conservatoire String Orchestra (Tippett’s ‘Concerto for Double String Orchestra’) and Birmingham Conservatoire Symphony Orchestra at Symphony Hall (Respighi’s epic ‘Pines of Rome’). She is very much looking forward to being involved in the end of year Symphony Orchestra project which will include Verdi’s Requiem.
Whilst at Birmingham Conservatoire Megan auditioned successfully to become an ‘extra string player’ for the professional chamber orchestra The Orchestra of the Swan (Stratford upon Avon). She also guest led the Walsall Symphony Orchestra in their orchestral project in March.
Megan recently won one of only two places on the ‘CBSO Orchestral Training Scheme’ offered by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, where she gets the opportunity to be mentored by a member of the orchestra while sitting in a number of rehearsals. Megan recently founded ‘Savoy Strings’ (www.savoystrings.co.uk), a versatile string ensemble who operate in the private and corporate function market.
Megan plays on a Jay Haide violin made in 2015.
